The Chairman

Mr. René Côté was appointed member and designated Chairman of the Conseil de la justice administrative on June 30, 2020.

He holds a law degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and a Ph.D. in international law from the Université Paris X. Admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1984, he has been a retired member for several years. His fields of expertise include intellectual property law and international law.

From 1987 to 2019, he taught in the Department of Legal Sciences at UQAM. During this period, he held the positions of Vice-Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Law. He was appointed Vice-Rector, Academic Life in 2013, in addition to being a member of the board of directors of the UQAM Foundation.

In addition to his duties at UQAM, he was Administrative Director of the Canadian Journal of Law and Society from 1996 to 1999. He also sat on the board of directors of the Société québécoise d'information juridique (SOQUIJ) from 1999 to 2005.

He is currently an associate professor at UQAM and a part-time member of the Copyright Board of Canada.
